illustration and poster design for the Lunar New Year special edition for Zirca’s resident night LOLLIPOP WEEKEND. the girl was drawn and coloured in illustrator, as was the layout, and then brought over to photoshop to overlay with a texture.

For our B5 sized flyer, we did digital print on 300gsm ivory card. I designed a seamless triangle pattern for the background which was coated in transparent spot UV. This produces a nice shimmery effect with texture, revealing the triangle patterns when observed under light, which I must say is rather addictive (hehe). The spot UV was only applied for the background and the sponsor logos.

For this project, I harnessed the extraordinary features of CSS3 and HTML5 (with a compatibility javascript include for IE). There was also jQuery involved for the slideshow presentation of the background image, with most of the element layers controlled by z-index and absolute positioning. The client also requested embedding of ecwid, an ecommerce widget platform, which was included using the ecwid plugin for wordpress.

The photo at the bottom was shot by me and vectorscum on venue at Borgata a few months ago on a sunny afternoon. We chose generic ingredients of a typical italian meal — olive oil, peppers, pasta, bread, tomatoes, basil. The photoshoot was originally done for the outlet website (which I designed and coded), but we revisited our photo catalogue from that shoot for this christmas menu poster.

I had originally suggested superfluous liners like BLIND SHUFFLING CAN BE HAZARDOUS, MAKE PARTYING YOUR RELIGION and DISOBEDIENCE ON THE DANCEFLOOR. All of which were (sadly) rejected for more politcally-correct liners like HOME OF THE RESIDENTS, MAKE PARTYING YOUR CALLING and POWER TO THE CLUBBERS. Oh wellz! These liners can be seen tracing the circular edge of the illustration.

The collaterals included a flyer design (which includes the month’s club schedule and unfolds to a mini-poster at the back), our regular monthly ad at the back of JUICE magazine (November issue of 2011), electronic direct mailers, outdoor posters for the Anniversary itself as well as November’s club schedule/listings. I also designed the lightbox which was installed at the facade of the club entrance as well as a 2.5m by 2.5m photowall (to serve as a backdrop for trigger-happy partygoers. We also had giveaways such as t-shirts and totebags.

BITE ME, a halloween poster for Mulligan’s (a restaurant/pub concept). The concept was B-grade horror movie poster style, hence the obvious imagery and cheesy taglines. Stock images of a gravestone, a little girl in a bridal dress and a vampire costume was used.

The Grindhouse was a halloween theme set across three outlets – Zirca (electro/house megaclub), Rebel (hip-hop boutique club) and Grooove (retro/disco bar). I did the layout for the listings for our monthly advert on the back cover of JUICE, while 3 separate artworks were done as “posters” for the flyers by vectorscum, dem and misphoria.
